What It Took to Get Here
Seven years of jewelry designing. A trip to Korea to understand where it all came from. An industry that didn’t want to let me in. A business built from scratch. Years of private appointments and pieces that went out into the world and meant so much to the people wearing them. And now this.
I went back to Korea in 2018 for the first time in almost 30 years. Walking through the neighborhoods where my family had two jewelry stores, where my father was a jeweler and my grandfather was a jeweler and my mother was a gemologist, I realized I had spent my whole life with a legacy that had been set aside when I was little.
Standing there in Seoul, something in me said: this is how you get to know him. This is how you get close to your dad.
So I taught myself. I spent a year in the LA Jewelry District. I got burned, overpaid for materials, faced more rejection and condescension than I care to remember. I had a design instinct. And slowly, a few people said yes. Those relationships led to better ones, and eventually I found my way to the best craftsmen in the business.
From that point, everything changed.
What Fine Jewelry Has Always Been About
Fine jewelry has a reputation for being intimidating. For asking people to know things they don’t know, to make decisions without full information, to spend money they aren’t sure they should spend.
I built Ounce of Salt Jewelry around the opposite of that. Transparency. Real information. Design that earns its place.
The art of jewelry was never meant to be out of reach. That is not a tagline. It is the reason this place exists.
What’s Here Now
The full Ounce of Salt Jewelry collection. The butterfly, the floating pieces, the lines, the cup rings. The organic pave. Custom engagement rings. Wedding bands. Heirloom redesigns. One-of-a-kind pieces built for specific people with specific lives.
Lab-grown diamonds alongside natural diamonds. Both available, both graded to the same standards, both honest options depending on what you are after.
And the titanium collection. Lab diamonds and colored stones set in a metal the world’s top jewelry houses have been working with for years. America’s first dedicated titanium fine jewelry gallery, now open in Manhattan Beach.
